Introducing the next project:
If you read the digital copy Unlimited Udo (print copies coming very soon), you’ve seen this teaser on the back page.
Here’s something new, just for the newsletter (not final):
What is this new comic about?
Here’s the blurb that you’ll find on the Kickstarter page upon launch:
Investigator Ellie Rose just watched her entire department spontaneously burst into flames.
She has one suspect in mind.
With no one left to stop her, she's going to make them pay.
This is a sci-fi noir one-shot in 24 glorious black & white pages.
It’s more serious than Unlimited Udo with an art style to match.
Who’s Involved?
This is a two-person job this time around.
Rafael Chrestani, artist extraordinaire responsible for Cover B of Unlimited Udo is back for this one. I was incredibly happy to get Rafael onboard from this story. He’s delivered a few pages already and they’ve been incredible.
I’m doing double-duty this time out. Not just writing, but the lettering this time around too. You’ve already seen my work on the ad and the preview page at the start of this post!
What’s the plan for release and production?
If Rafael keeps up his current pace, Stay Cool will be ready for launch by late August.
I’ll be handing out flyers at Fan Expo Toronto to bring backers to the campaign. (More on that in future posts).
You may have noticed it’s in black and white. The reasons for that are twofold:
Rafael’s art looks incredible in black and white. No doubt that colours may add a little bit of pop, but the lines are doing so much that it feels like diminishing returns - which makes the second reason possible…
Experimenting with different print options.
There will be a regular full-sized print that will fit nicely with your bagged and boarded collection - just like last campaign.
We’ll also have a much-less expensive Tankōbon “manga-sized” digest version.
I can print 8x as many copies as I did for Udo at the same price in this format. This opens the door for folks that would balk at print cost (and the shipping) of a full-sized comic.
This becomes the defacto option for the non-collector types (who don’t care to read digitally).
I also feel confident that the Tankōbon style will work after I was given a sample by my print shop. They look very slick.
I’m very excited for this upcoming release and I hope you are too!
